nap quilt no. 032  {SOLD}

dimensions: roughly 57x74in / 145x188cm

I refer to this quilt as “Merit Badges”. Each badge is composed of the smallest trimmings of thread, yarn and fabric that typically end up covering my workspace floor. Instead of disposing of these scraps, I began saving them in a shoebox, not knowing how I might someday utilize them.  And so begins a creative journey. What was formerly considered detritus has found new life. As I created each badge I also saw little worlds emerge: planets and moons, the forest floor, gardens, and sometimes pizza, cookies, or chunky peppermint ice cream.

The main ground fabric of this quilt is two shades of soft gray linen. The reverse is a warm white cotton. The stitching that keeps its three layers secured is more akin to an embroidery, or tacking, stitch than it is to the more conventional quilting stitches, but it serves the same purpose while providing further simple textural interest on both front and back. So li’l nubbins abound across the surface and continue onto the binding, because it made visual sense to take it right to the edge. This is a fluid, low-loft quilt.

The nap logo head is embroidered on the reverse. This nap quilt no. 032 is the only one of its kind. Designed, pieced, and stitched in Provincetown.

Special care note: This quilt should only be gently washed by hand in no more than slightly warm water, then lay flat to air dry.  Can be spot treated during the washing process. I would not classify this quilt as delicate, but please keep in mind that this is one that will not survive rough handling over time.
